Right, i have finally got connect working (MSI error issue now fixed)

Is it possible to put notes to show "turn left" or "turn right" etc.

I have used ride with gps and you can alter the cue sheet, is this possible with connect?

(Garmin 205 being used)

If you download your course to your Garmin then it shows the route to follow, left and right turns. No need for notes.

Yes but only to a point. missed a turning today (probably not paying enough attention) but because the road was unclear (it was a split into 2 type junction).

On ride with gps you can edit the cues to make it clear, but i cant seem to do this with GC.

The third party ones allow notes.

Or more constructively......
When navigating the screen will show where you are and as you approach a turn will give you a visual (backlit) audible (beep) and a textual (instruction) warning as you approach the junction. There is lso a screen that can be set up to give you a list of turns and distances to those turns. There will be an alarm, and instruction when you get to the turn.

However these are generated by the Edge itself. I do not think that you can transfer notes or give specific detailed instructions

Ride with GPS allows you to do notes.

I don't bother as just follow the Garmin route, but you can add all sorts of additional flags. Certainly had this on a couple of Sportives.

Some allow you to edit the turns and change prompts or add prompts

The left / right can be edited in ride with gps, or training center if a tcx file.

I think Garmin connect just does it all.

The nav screen on the 205 is not that clear, but i think i just need to be more aware of it.

The thing does bleep etc, and to be fair it is a stunning bit of kit for the price.

If you import a tcx file into training center, you can edit the notes.

I have the Edge 200 and it is the same. I have found with a little practice, you can usually "guess" correctly. that should make sense to you, for those without either the 200/205 or use of it, this won't make sense because you only see your route, you don't see a map underneath and the road. But I have to say, sometimes I find I have to go off course to work out that I should have turned off....

What I have not managed to get GC to do is to route me around roundabouts correctly and it often tells me I am off course when I obey traffic regulations and cycle in a clockwise direction around roundabout!

The 800 does the same thing - unless you specifically route it the correct way around a roundabout. Having said that, there was an upgrade yesterday and haven't tried routing since then.

Have you tried planning the route on Ride with GPS?

no. I don't get on with ride with gps. prefer bikehike... I don't often use the course creator feature - maybe once or twice a month when I cycle over to my grandfather's trying to use as many single track roads as possible or am trying a new route to my mothers. Mostly I just know where I am going - or ignore it complaining about roundabouts... but it would be nice if garmin could recognise the UK drives on the left and does roundabouts in a clockwise direction...
