Garmin Edge 500 - External Battery Options

Hi all,

I have a Garmin Edge 500, which has a battery life of around 14 hours. While this works well for most rides, I want to apply for a 24 hour ride for charity next year, so I have the following questions:

1. Is there a recommended external piggyback battery backup / charger for the Garmin Edge 500?
2. Will it be possible to connect this 'on the go' without interrupting the recording of the route?

You can get a power monkey or such like. There are many similar options of charger that you can use.
The Garmin will have to be switched off. It will not charge on the go.
