I think if you haven't pressed reset/save after it switched off you should get one single ride when uploaded to Garmin connected. not sure...

Are you a member of the Garmin forums? I've seen somebody on the edge 500 forum offer to fix files for other members - I don't know if the same applies on the 705 forum.

The files downloaded from the Garmin are normally gpx (or tcx) files which are just text.

Open them in a text editor and you will find most of it is a list of coordinates inside the tags <track>...</track>

Just copy the coordinates from one file into the other. Take backups first!

If you have java installed, there is a free app called OpenRouteConverter that allows you to cut up and merge gpx tracks.

It works for your points but it won't work for the overall data. As that is written to the file when the garmin is connected to the computer. So distance, max speed etc... will stay the same.

That's a shame. I didn't know that as I use a Dakota which doesn't do the training features.

Is it the software on the PC manipulating the files? Is so, you can get still get at the raw files - when you plug the Garmin in, it gets mounted as a USB drive. Edit them, save back to USB, import, jobs a goodun ... or left you thoroughly confused. :-)

does it matter?

That's a good point. It's not something that would bother me, as I log my miles in a spreadsheet, and use the garmin to track fitness over certain routes. I've edited a route once as a track point corrupted, but it was on a long ride, just deleted the corrupt point and re-imported to the training centre.

Slightly OT, but I have an Edge 205 which started switching itself off. The problem got worse and worse - and very noticeable over rough ground - so I contacted Garmin. I ended up with a new unit, no cost to me despite the old one being out of warranty. Garmin were excellent.

I think it's a bit of a known issue with the 205, but worth keeping an eye out if it starts to happen more.

I had the same problem with the 305 and the same result :becool:
