Garmin HRM Issues

I purchased the Garmin Premium HRM in Aug last year so as far as I know it's the latest model. It worked perfectly all through the winter, but recently its started dropping out for large periods, and this morning, the Garmin didn't detect it at all for the entire commute.
I changed the battery last week wondering if this was the issue, but clearly it's not based on this morning's evidence.

Has anyone else had issues with the new strap and found a solution?
Do I need to wash it more frequently - is that a possible cause of interference (It's not like it's honking or anything!) I've tried to restrict the washing to every week or only after particularly long rides as I can't imagine it does it much good?
Do I need to try wearing it on my back rather than the chest?

Need to try and sort ASAP, preferably before my latest End to End in a couple of weeks.

This does appear to be a common problem with the premium strap. After some research on the web I found the Polar strap has the same poppers as the Garmin and is more reliable. I think I got a Polar strap for about £10 (it was a while back) and have not had any issues since.

I broke mine and bought a new one a few weeks ago, it's obviously different, for some reason it as three parts that need to be moist before use, instead of two on my broken old premium HRM.

I have been using the Mio Link (wrist based sensor) which I am happy with, previous to that I gave up with the fabric one and went back to the old rubber one which is much more reliable

Cheers, it's certainly a potential solution... but the strap is worth £50 rrp and I've only had it since August, so I'd prefer a solution that got this one sorted in the first instance!

Yeah, mine is the one that requires moisture in the 3 places... I've emailed wiggle anyway and hopefully they'll honour the warranty and send me out a replacement.

Mine now has the same problem, after only four months.
Decided, instead of getting a new one under warranty, just pay £10 for a polar strap as they seem not to have the same design fault as the Garmin strap.
