Edge500 Uses a breadcrumb trail but not a proper map

Edge800 Has proper maps and can be upgraded

Bryton rider50 also does mapping and can be found cheaper than both garmins. The trade off is pretty crap stand-alone software.

Both available on ebay/amazon new/sh. If you wish to buy new (and without speed/cadence/HRM sensors then you can buy un-bundled and probably the cheapest at handtec

The CTC did a review of the Garmin Etrex 20/30 recently and I think they wrote they were very good, if you do not want the bicycle specific functions of the Garmin Edge 500/800.

Garmin 705 with HRM, cadence and full UK and Ireland mapping can be had new for £218 on the bay if you get serious it will do ant+ power . The screen is not a touch screen like the 800. Dated to some but a real bargain imho:thumbsup:

I have a 705 and I certainly would not consider the map as the best feature. I have used it a few times as a Sat Nav - take me to ...xxx..., but have not been terribly impressed by its routing. Indeed, as a result, if I am in fresh country and do not know the roads, I take a map in my pocket.
