One of my favourite tunes and superbly played in my opinion! How come Jimi Hendrix and Gary Moore turned to drink and drugs(albeit years apart and different ages) and died from their affects when they had such talent? Did the talent come from the drink and drugs? Can these people not cope with life?

Lots of people turn to drink and drugs and die because of them. Only the high profile deaths get reported. Only the high profile deaths generate interest beyond the immediate relatives of the cadavers. Lots of unfulfilled promises are terminated prematurely by drink/drugs it's not confined to rock stars and it's not necessarily caused by death.

Whilst that is very true, I think there are also personality traits that both aid creativity and also make someone more susceptible to addiction and risk taking. There are also a lot of other factors that come with stardom (I imagine, never having been there myself, or ever likely to be!), such as the access to money, the adulation, and even tradition. Who really knows though?

Dead rock stars are nothing but a subset of dead alcoholics and drug abusers.

BTW I'd love to die of adulation.

Gary Moore was very anti-drugs note the "Heroin is a life sentence" warning on his album covers possibly due to his mate Phillip Parris Lynott as for drink? who knows. Not much of a rock star death though collapsing on a package tour!
