I have a pair of 16" (40.5cm) wide GB bars on my Dawes. They're a bit narrow, I was measured up for my road bike at 44cm. I'd like to replace the GB bars with something from the same era (late 70's) if not the same make. However, I've only seen 16" bars on ebay. Did they make wider ones? Where else could I search for something suitable? What other brands could I look out for and would I also need to change the stem if I change the brand of bars?
Finally, it looks as if it would be hard to loosen the stem sufficiently to allow the bars to slide out without damaging the stem. I'm sure it must work but can someone assure me on this, or does it need a professional tool or something to remove the bar from the stem?
