It seems with a quick look around the forums there are a lot of question regarding gears and ratios chain rings etc etc. Would it be a good idea to bring these together under one forum or does the search allow results on all these topics, Might help if they were all in one place ?

Any answers

Ok yep good very good, but how about it being in one place? Like making it fairly easy to find for all including the new site users....

It would allow a bit more discussion and insight, and a help to the people who can get 'fused' by crank length, ratio wheel sizes, special drives, hubs, pros and cons etc, You are the engine of he bike if you can't make go whats the point of having it?

I think you have a point - the subject does come up a lot.

The search function is pretty crap ime - like every other forum I frequent.

The last bike I used for 'touring' was a Sturmey 5 speed with 16, Front set 32. 48, 54 with a light light long arm chain takeup the carrier was a steel arm with aluminum lower arm, the idlers and guide cages from a disused Derailleur. 27x 1 1/4 rear wheel and a 26 x1 1/4 front. (nose down, arse up before some clever triathlon riders thought of it). If you work the maths out, its stupidly high Ratio but on long slopes or near flat, using toeclips it would roll very nicely, the previous setup was 48 54 to a three Speed carrinying a 13T on a Sun pursuit bike replica (just as bad/worse in ratios) and got stopped for speeding ok so it was downhill and I was still pedaling. So yes I have and I do but, technology and products have moved on. I don't have time to seek the unseekable.

Imo the forums are more fragmented than really necessary as things are. I don't think we need another one. Half the threads would just end up in the generic technical help forum anyway.
