I have recently bought a new road bike with Shimano 105 gears. I also got the bike serviced. However, when I went out on the bike I changed gear a couple of times and now the levers do not seem to be doing anything!!
Also, I bought some Ultegra pedals, however I am unable to release the cleats from the pedals and therefore nearly killed myself. What am I doing wrong and am I a total numpty.

Many thanks in advance!

I think that the shop has not tightened the gear cable clamp at the derailleur properly. The cable may have slipped through preventing you from changing gear. With regard to the pedals, I suggest that you get a small allen key and slacken off the setting on your pedals (anti-clockwise). This will make releasing the cleat easier.

You probably just need to practice twisting your heal to relase your foot from the pedals. As above setting the pedals to the softest release setting will help. Don't worry, unclipping soon becomes second nature.

The first time I rode with clipless pedals it wasn't until I needed to stop that I realised the guy in the shop hadn't told me how to get my feet off the pedals. I can still remember desperately wiggling my feet and trying to undo my shoes before I reached the stop line at a junction.

As for the gears, it's very odd that neither level is doing anything. I would take it straight back to where you had it serviced.
