Gear lever throw

When cables become stretched the throw of your levers increases to an annoying level. Which way to shorten the throw on the twizel twister adjusters?

The direction that makes more of the metal barrel inside the adjuster show up. It might be as well to put it to it's slackest extent and simply undo the clich nut on the derailier and pull the excess cable through and re tighten.
