Gear skipping/cable/?

Okay, recently replaced a rear mech cable and treated my winter rig to a new chain and cassette. I wasn't happy with the first cable so replaced it and felt fine and dandy, until I started noticing that toward the end of the lower gears, I was always getting a skip.

I followed the instructions here... but still happening...

Somebody mentioned to me the possibility that the jockey wheel was either too low or too high. Certainly the symptom seems to be that the chain won't go all the way in and rides above the sprocket. When I'm digging deep on a climb, this then slips back and forth between the two gears that it is inbetween. I can see this 'riding above' the sprocket when the bike is in the stand when I work through the gears. The more I fiddle only seems to determine which gears I have a problem with - same symptom - as opposed to sorting it.

What should I do? Replace the cable again or is it just fine tuning whichever gear it is riding above, when this seems to contradict the otherwise excellent instructions given in the link above....?

As ever thanks for any input.

You may need to replace the outer cables but before you do have a look at this vid, its very good IMO

I used that vid this week after replacing a rear mech, cassette and chain. So far so good

A point that you might already be aware of but just in case. If it was a like for like replacement then its a moot point but if it was different geared cassette you replaced the rear mech might not be suitable.
