Well, have been to the vets doc and been neutered. 
Actually it wasn't that bad. The doc is a bikie, so we discussed bike stuff while he did the deed. The nurse was very nice too (and I mean 'nice' to mean 'friendly and pleasant' btw...) so it was far from being as unpleasant as I was expecting. Chapeau to the NHS nut-fiddlers. 
So far, so good as far as discomfort is concerned. It's been four and a half hours now and no pain to speak of, just a vague awareness that 'something' has happened. I might send Baggy down south later on to investigate, possibly with a camera. Pics anyone?
Doc says that, with luck, I could be back on the bike in a week. Yay!

- wow! Seems a bit drastic to me, but good luck with it. I hear it helps reduce aggression and hair loss.
My mate had that done but the doc who did it didn't do it right and he was still fertile. He had to go again and the doc went in the same scars he'd gone through the first time. He had a bit of Barney Rubble with his jewells and asked me to have a look (what are friends for?) Anyway, his cobblers had a hole in each one that looked just like where you'd put your pencil in a pencil sharpener! It surprised even me. Less than a year later, his missis had to go in and "have it all taken away".
