just to be the opposite of everyone else (again) my road bike saddle is a brooks B17

mountain bike is a specialised one that came on a Hardrock a fair few years ago, setback is completely different, riding position is completely different as they are different bikes for different styles of riding.

you don't sit in a racing car the same way you do a land rover!

if your wanting a hybrid or mountain bike to feel similar to a road bike you're going to need to use a longer stem.

Thanks mate. The geometry issue is between my old road bike and my new carbon, both road bikes. Just to make it more confusing for everyone, most of all myself, I've also included the possibility of buying an MTB aswell.

Cheers MacB. More food for thought.

Well, think I'll rig up the old Giant Defy with mudguards and use her over the shoot weather, that's for definite. So is giving up the gym - too expensive and I'm now bored with the bike there which has very little relation to a real road bike. Insofar as the mtb is concerned, well, it'll be an extravagance but the new Cube 2012 Ltd Pro, here might fit the bill...

But I might wait and see, however much I'd like some new kicks, it's quite a commitment.

Snailracer, should be sticking to the road really, doing the Etape next year...

You're almost there with the mtb, the cube looks pretty good, just think of the fun doors it will open for you, and you don't have to call everyone dude, well not to start with

You're right Giles, definitely right.

Now, what do MTBers call their steeds? The Cube I link is 'sick', right?

;)

I'm too old to know that, I haven't yet mastered the correct sounds to make when getting some big air, guy I was out with last weekend was whooping like a school girl as we came through a jumpy section.
