I think taxi drivers are pretty great, tbh. Well, black cab drivers that is, for the most part.

I was exceptionally shocked to be given space to join the offside lane by an Addison Lee driver the other day, I nearly wobbled on my bike from surprise.

I think I'd happily take that driver's advice if insurance for a young 'un like me didn't require a small mortgage

The lane you recommend becomes a left turn only into Drummond Gate in perhaps 100 metres.

FWIW I don't know exactly what kind of lane you're referring to, but just recently I reported an incident I witnessed with taxi making a right turn from a lane marked as "left and straight only" across another car - the response I got mentioned the lane markings are only "advisory". It probably isn't terribly safe to ignore the advise, though, especially on a bike.
