A friend of mine introduced me to a musical instrument that I had not encountered before. It's called a Hang, plural Hanghang, by its manufacturer but most folk apparently call it a Hang drum. I've mugged up on it and there seems to be a lot of mystical claptrap wrapped up in the marketing of the instrument or sound sculpture as its makers insist that it is referred to as.
Ownership is a multistage process. You need to write a letter to the manufacturer in Switzerland - handwritten only please. Emails are totally ignored. Letter writers then receive either a letter of rejection or an invitation to an interview in Berne where the decision to sell is made . New ones cost around 1800€
Second hand ones fetch ridiculous prices. There one on Ebay at £9000 and someone has placed a bid!
Here's a sample of the music.

I'm off to the kitchen to bash some metal and forge a future career in pan cultural musical instruments.
