The last Couple of weeks I've had a few incidents with close overtakes and being pulled out on. All of which where done by the WVM. what is it with blokes that get into White vans, when they get behind the wheel of there van do they suddenly think the highway code no longer applies to them and they all of a sudden get priority. Really starting to hiss me off!

Have you thought about attaching missiles to the bike? :gun:

I'm tempted just to get a hi viz and some black electrical tape and write "Give room you morons" on it.

I'm sick of it too - you aren't the only. one.

Does anyone use those red plastic flags which stick out from the side of your bike - they attach to the frame? Like this one at the top of the page:

http://www.discountbicycles.co.uk/biz/section.php/4465/1/safety_flags

If so, do they work? I am tempted to get one and see whether I get a bit of extra room. Cheaper than a helmet cam.
I suspect the answer is
- the people who will pay attention anyway are the ones already giving you loads of room;
- but the d!ckheads you WANT to pay attention will see it is a challenge - they'll see how close they can get to just clip it.
Just call me cynical.

I had a blue van driver pull out on me, I had to brake hard not to hit the back of his van. When he stopped at the junction 50 yards further on, he claimed to have given me plenty of room. So it's not just white vans !!

My personal favourite:
WVM - I gave you plenty of room!
Me - How about I be the judge of how much room I need?

I've often wandered if a jersey advertising "injury lawyers 4U" in bold letters across a picture of Billy Murray pointing the finger would change some drivers attitudes towards us.

I was gonna ask the same question a couple of days ago.

I think it's the old Transit van principle. These things are quite torquey and powerful for their size, so they tend to get driven boy-racer style, by people with deadlines and little patience.

I have tried several pieces of text on the back of my jacket, reflective vests etc., such as "Keep left", "Share the road", "I (too) own the road" (in Norwegian).

Unfortunately a few motorists appear to be provoked by such messages (they tend to be provoked by our mere existense, so what can we do?)

However, I found that one simple text seemed to be more effective than the others:

"HUMAN BEING".
