Situation is (bear with me here)............
I am nearing my 80th.
I am really ready for bed at 22.00ish (sometimes earlier/later).
I go to bed and sleep well ie i drop off no problem, have a pee break approx 2ish and am then awake 05.30-06.30 so get up......I hate just lying there when awake.
Have a coffee and normally a mug of milk.
Then, most mornings i go for a 2-3 mile walk.
Bit of breakfast ie banana and yogurt.

Problem.......at some time I suddenly go tired. I go to bed (cant snooze in the chair) and sleep well for an hour.....then I'm OK.

This is a newish thing for me and I dont know whether to embrace it or get some sort of supplement.

Anyone got (sensible) thoughts on this.
Thanks.

To many, that will sound ideal: plenty of sleep and a nap, but if it's causing you concern then it clearly needs to be investigated.
It reads like a sugar crash to me. Have you ever tried wearing a CGM or experimented with different breakfasts types to see if it changes things?

No CGM.
Breckie does vary. Often its grilled cheese and tomato on toast.

I've always assumed it was part of getting older and just accepted it. I find afternoon napping is a fairly frequent thing for me. Only half an hour and always in an armchair. I call it my power nap and wake up feeling much better.^_^
After reading your post I may mention it at my next check up.

Google tells me half an hour is ideal. Yesterday was half and hour but sometimes its a full hour(ish) never more.

What time of day do you have the nap?
If it's in the afternoon having eaten some lunch it sounds perfectly normal to me.

It can vary. I mainly 'choose' AM as I assumed an afternoon kip would affect getting to sleep at night.

Yeah. At 80 I might need a sleep top-up later in the day.
The question does arise - what exactly is spoilt for you by having an afternoon nap? If the answer is ‘nothing, really’, then it certainly wouldn’t worry me. It’s not as if you have the boss on your back because you haven’t finished the work, right?

I'm 71, Dave, and at around 1pm I have an overwhelming need for a nap. This has happened since I was in my fifties.

One of the joys of being retired is that I can enjoy my afternoon snoozes in peace. It was tricky when I worked in an office. I noticed there how many people would struggle to stay awake in a 2pm meeting.

I've never considered it anything to worry about, but if it's bothering you then imo you should mention it to your GP.
