I stand to the left of the bike and put my right leg over, tried getting on bike from other side and it seemed really strange. Do you always start from the same side?

Wow............... this one is nearly as bad as the "which hand do you use to reach for your bidon" thread!

Always mount the bike from the left. Probably because traffic flows on the left side of the road in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Maybe in France you should mount from the right.

As the others have said always; standing on left with right leg over; but, as from the right with the left leg over would mean I'd be standing in the road - I think that its safer that way.

Also since having a hip replacement, I need to lay the bike over towards me a bit.

It depends which side of me the bike is on, i.e. usually right leg over (because of the traffic flow in the UK).
I do tend to clip in first on the left though.

As most do - left side and right leg over. Also used to use the same for a motorbike (sidestand leans it that way) and a horse - try mounting a horse from the other side, it's very strange :-)

I occasionally find myself wondering whether or not I should mount from the rear, but in all honesty, that approach has never quite had the attraction that more conventional mounts provide.

Oh sorry, I was thinking about sexuial intercourse. This is the cycling forum. Doh! Wrong window.

Stand at right, left leg over. Right leg down when I stop.

Reach for bidon always with right hand, though I am (mostly) left-handed.
