A couple of things.

The guy who told you that Carbon was the way forward. What makes him so special that you drop all your own research and thoughts, as well as paying a shed more cash, to follow his idea?

How much faster or how much less effort do you think you will get from a Carbon bike than you would an alu bike?

If you come off a Carbon bike, there is a good chance you could have a written off bike. Is it worth the risk?

The reason I ask these questions is that I was going to get a Carbon bike but I am glad I was reasoned out of it by a lot of people.

I would say you were 'opinioned' out of buying carbon - not 'reasoned'

It was my idea to get one to begin with, but I have put bikes down in the past and probably will do again in the future. The money I am saving is going towards some good Winter gear and so it was reasonable reasoning. :0)

I had a clipless fall on a carbon bike not long ago, bike unscathed. I have another scar on my left leg however!

To the OP if interested in carbon, go ride some carbon bikes, also some alu bikes in the same price range...and buy the one that makes you smile the most
