I will be getting a payment for being in my job for 25 years fairly soon which has to spent on something for yourself. Rather than get some crap like an iPad I thought I might get a new bike for commuting.

However after looking around the choice seems to be somewhat limited for my requirements. I have a dodgy knee so it has tho be a triple. My current bike has a 28t inner chain ring and 28t rear cassette big sprocket and I do not wish to go much higher than that. So as much as I like the look of the Boardman hybrids they do not even come close. I would also like it too be fairly light, have hydraulic disc brakes and a carbon front fork. The Giant Escape appears to be the only bike I can find. The Specialized Sirrus would be good as it is the same frame as my Secteur which I love, but it just has an alu fork. If this would make a huge difference but I have a feeling that just comes in a compact too.

My budget would be £700 as I was going to put a couple of hundred towards it myself. I have a feeling that the Giant is all there is though.

Not that many around, i though Trek did one but can't find it.

Thanks for looking  I think Merida do a couple but they have an aluminium fork on both. Never had a bike like that so I really do not know what kind of difference that it makes. The Giant looks quite good anyway. I quite fancied a CX bike but the mechanical discs put me off and it would also cost more.
