Even though we're 2 days into the Dauphine and the dust has truly settled on the Finestre, I was wondering what the consensus was on the event.
I'm also giddy as I'm not used to forum software that supports polls.

A 7 for me: there were some great 1 day races but you could generate the same level of GC peril by neutralising the first 14 stages (or in a couple of years having 14 rest days to allow for the jetlag from the Australian transfer). Albania didn't really get it and the route planners got caught with their pants down when it rained.

Enjoyed it, as ever, though.

I expect you'll find that CycleChat hardcore are not used to it either which may reflect in minimal response.
Good luck.
Why is there no #11?

Nearly gave it a 9 . You didn't know who was going to win on stage 20 out of 3 riders ..... That's rare . Some good stages . It will be talked about for a long time

7 from me

Positives:

  • Mads P was superb and brought a lot of fun to the first couple of weeks
  • Nobody knew who was going to win until the 20th stage was done
  • Stage 20 was epic - featuring a brave attack, some tactical traps, and massive efforts from Simon Lease-A-Yates and the magnificent Van Aert
  • A bit of UAE intrigue is always a laugh

Negatives:

  • There was really bugger all serious GC action until stage 20. Not knowing who will win breeds suspense, but nothing much happening is low on the excitement. Ideally we want some serious swedging for three weeks, with riders punch drunk and retaliating blindly, losing time, gaining time, getting up and doing it all again, and then decide it all on stage 20
  • The big Mads P V Van Aert ciclamino battle never materialised, I was really looking forward to it
  • The big two GC riders crashing out - it opened the race up, but I'd rather it hadn't happened

Trickier than normal to rate it.
The first 2 weeks had some interesting stages and incidents without really kicking off.
The finale and drama of the finish made me rate it an 8 in the end.
With 2 stages to go it was clear that Yates had no chance unless you were a hopeless GB favouring romantic!
Foreign starts aren't for me... I'll allow a neighbouring country if I'm pushed.
Please never have a US or UAE start, ffs.

Gave it a 7 ,
Still not sure how I feel about the way Yates won it ,was down to a brilliant attack after doing just enough for 19 stages or was it that the other 2 riders Carapaz and Del Torro didn't want the other to win it so they let Yates ride away with it

Gave it an 8. Overall GC action wasn't that great, but the ending made up for it. In total was very enjoyable to watch.

8 from me, the GC remained in doubt throughout and there were some very good individual stages. Marked down as for one reason or another it wasn't a completely A list GC race but then the Giro rarely is.
