It was fairly obvious that it was deliberate by De Bondt. Now I know why. I was surprised no commentator picked up on it

Saw Simon at Rouleur Live on Saturday (with trophy). He was still in amazement at his win. He pointed out the psychological hammer blow on stage 20 that Del Toro & Carapaz must've felt hearing on the radio "Yates has caught Van Aert." He'd targeted the Finestre stage and so winning the Giro was a byproduct of that.
