was giving it some effort on the way home last night and i noticed there was a click (in sound and feeling) with my left pedal on the down stroke.

I checked it when i got home and i noticed there was some give in the pedal bearings in the left pedal. There is no give at all in the right pedal.

The pedals look like sealed units so i dont want to really start pulling them apart.
plus the bike is less than 3 months old.

Is it ok to ask for a fix/new pedals under warreny ?

I would expect and indeed demand them to repair/replace under warranty on a 3 month old bike.

Otherwise, most pedal bearings can be adjusted/replaced/regreased in my experience. There should be a cap on the outside of the pedal which pops off (sometimes screws off) to reveal the bearing and it will have a locknut and bearing cone like a wheel bearing.

You would expect at least 6 months on components. Sounds as though the bearing race has a flaw, so pedal needs replacing. They can be dismantled if Shimano but only with special tool! Try to get the shop to replace them, and don't get fobbed off.
