Thanks for that guys, its actually rare I talk about him on here (its often a nice escape from reality). Its been almost 4 months now and is gets really difficult sometimes as most people around us (apart from close family) presume everything is back to normal. Have 2 other boys 8 and 2 and they are keeping family together at the moment, cant imagine the pain of parents that lose their only child.

My heart lurches when I hear about the loss of a child, it doesn't take much to begin to imagine the pain. I feel for you and your wife, I really do.

The names are now public. The chap that worked for me was the father of the pilot who was flying the Tornado that crashed into the hillside near Loch Lomond. The son was the apple of the father's eye, having been a top performer throughout his life. The office is very sombre today as many of the staff have worked together for years and have heard about the son's developments and career progression. He was only 27 - so young.

I have just read all the posts and my thoughts are with you and the family of your employee. Its so hard to tell people that they love one has died, and especial being so young.

Loss is a bad deal - the world is a small place in a big way...

If anything life treats us all the same yet makes us realise that, it's that precious !

One can only be thankfull the sunshines.

The loss of ones child is just to aweful to contemplate. Being the bearer of such news must have been terrible as well. May he rest in peace & those who love dhim find closure.

Trust me, it doesn't get any easier with experience. I most admire the Family Liaison trained officers at work. They are the ones who volunteer to support the families of murder victims, and more recently fatal accident victims. It's almost inevitable that they will be asked to give the news, and on the half-dozen occasions I have had to do it I have hated every part of it.

Only my 2nd time to deliver the death news. I hate it. The first time, I was young and unprepared for the questions and the then anger. This time was easier, but harder. I have a daughter of 24 and I kept thinking of what I would feel I someone had told me that she had gone. It has really affected me this time. Sometimes it is easier to be callow.
