Giving up motorised transport in favour of biking it everywhere

All the "main" cars I've ever owned. One of the main criteria when I was looking to replace the Insignia estate with an EV was that it must have at least close to the same load capacity (The Enyaq actually has slightly more).

I have several times over the years taken delivery of a new washing machine/tumble dryer/dishwasher from the shop using my car to get it home. But my main car has always been an estate car, apart from once when we bought a VW Santana saloon. Lasted 6 months before we decided we really couldn't manage without the load carrying space and sold it to get an estate.

I've had a gas cooker in the back of my Polo. I don't think the washer would be that much bigger. I couldn't lift it myself though.

No, washing machines are deliberately heavy. THey have a big weight to keep them (sort of) stable during the spin cycle.

I have managed to get one into the car by myself, but only because the rear opening of that car had no lip, so I was able to use that as a pivot point.

I was delayed by 1 hr 11 mins on a similar journey today, so that should be another £59.53 refund!

Ive moved one on a cycle trailer. They are indeed bloody heavy, big concrete weight in the bottom. Surprisingly not too bad to cycle with once its moving, but I was aware stopping and cornering at speed could be dicey so took it steady.

I still have the C70 for summer pub lunch runs and car shows, and the van for camping, but im still car free for all my daily transport needs. Docs, shops, visiting chums or doing the regular Vinted run to the collection/pickup lockers for the missus are all on foot or bicycle.

Holidays obviously get chosen differently (we average about 1 return flight per 8 years now).

If that because it's difficult to get to the airport on public transport & too expensive by taxi /Uber?
