... I haz it ...

Has anyone else had it? How long to get over it? I've just got over the sweating/shaking/dizzy/sore-throat/feel-like-Im-going-nuts part, which lasted for 3 weeks, I'm just left with feeling permanently exhausted.

Sorry to hear that XM. Daughter had it and was OK after 3 weeks or so but like you felt tired for a couple of months. Takes a lot out of you XM- she seemed to pick up viruses and infections a lot afterwards so take it easy until you feel right.

Bad news mate, I had it when I was 20. I was floored for three weeks then it took a good six months until I felt completely right again. Don't try to over exert yourself too soon, you may find all your stamina has gone.

On the other hand, I've known a couple of people who just bounced straight back after it.

I was never right after getting it in 1978. Leaves you with a limp, bad temper, not able to tolerate fools well, shrinks yer bits, makes yer neck permanently sore .... oh and the wart ... that is just soooo embarrassing.:giggle:

Wishing you to be well again. Whooooosh done.

It is most peculiar and slightly embarrasing! I am not even remotely close to being a teenager and I've been single for four months! I've read some horror stories via google about people who'd had it really bad, I seem not to have it so bad, so here's hoping it goes quickly if I rest a lot.

Oh and this:

I had it when I was 18. I was suffering from it for some time (over Christmas and New Year) before I was diagnosed. The turning point was when I collapsed in a night club and my mates were 'high fiving' me while I was still lying on the floor thinking I had necked a skin-full!

Finally got to docs in the new year and was so f***ed that my dad had to carry me in. Off work for a few weeks, then (think) I was a bit off the pace for a few months after.
Strange illness as the symptoms don't include the usual sickness that you come to expect.

I had it in my 20's, lasted maybe 6 weeks and I didn't recover to 100% for months. Trying to cycle or play football would see me flake out really quick.

Remember watching a really dreary TV show, in the early, the worst stages, but I couldn't get out of the chair to pick up the remote, I could see it but couldn't get there. ^_^

Any cravings? I rarely eat anything sweet but I'd sit there and eat tinned strawberries, & syrup. :hungry:

I never got it but several mates did when I was in my 20s. Same goes for my children and their friends. Very different in different people, but consistently those who overdid things (especially exercise) too soon suffered for their folly so you should heed the doctor!

All the best and hope you get well again quickly

I shared a room with someone at uni who had it. Took him months to recover and we had to hang his socks out the window in a plastic bag.

I had it at Uni (tis what you get for kissing man-slags!). didn't really notice more than a cold but went to the doc after a month of falling asleep in lectures and chronically coughing. Took 6 months to get back to full form - but got me out of 9 o clock lectures in the meantime! When you start feeling better go really steady on the exercise or it can get worse again, and be careful with the booze - sometimes you can get liver damage, but not always

One of our managers has just returned to work after being off for about eight months with it. He's doing a couple of hours 3 or 4 times a week to build his strength back up.

I'm sure that's an extreme case, but take it easy.

Whilst I also got it at Uni, I am fairly certain that it wasn't from kissing man-slags.

The "ok in 6 weeks, better in 6 months" which many have posted was about the same that I experienced.

I had it in my mid-20s. Doctor said take 3-4 weeks off work but at that time I was still keen and career motivated and so struggled back into work after 2 weeks. Big mistake - lasted about 4 days and was then off for 8 weeks, with the highlight being falling asleep late one evening and waking up what I thought was a few hours later, only to eventually find out that I'd been asleep for 28 hours!

Moral is, take it really steady and don't rush back to work.

Good news is that my capacity to hold alcohol has been impaired ever since which in these cash-strapped times I consider to be a result ^_^
