Spotted this unicyclist at the lights at the bottom of Finnieston Street, is it anyone from on here?

Passed me as in scalped me?

Sadly no, or I'd have stopped for a chat. I was in my car and didn't want to beep you.

There's a guy near me on a 36" unicycle, which is the largest size available with pneumatic tyres. He always wears a full-face helmet, which makes me think he's worried about a tarmac face plant. I've also seen some MUNI folk riding down steps and jumping off blocks of concrete!

We see a unicyclist regularly in Sunny Sheffield. Goodness kows how he manages the hills.
The gearing is quite low. A 24 inch unicycle is a 24" gear, and that is similar to granny ring and a largish sprocket. As far as I'm aware, there is only one geared hub for unicyclists, and it costs about a grand!

Not a traditional unicyclist but I spotted another single-wheeled contraption in the city centre the other day, a self-balancing single wheeled electric thingy. The young man riding it had a bag of shopping in each hand and I couldn't see how he controlled it. I guessed it must use the same technology as the Segway, with the user using leaning to control motion.

Anyway, I seached the web and this is the kind of thing he was on:

I like the idea from a technological point of view but they're advertising it to, among others, people who like 'big walks in the nature with your family'. The nice thing about long walks in nature is enjoying the surroundings while getting some gentle exercise; making your lungs work a little harder to get the benefit of clean country air, not gliding along like a sack of spuds. Where's the health benefit in that?

In case anyone's thinking of investing in one, don't bother unless you're going to use it on private property; they are illegal to use on roads or footpaths in the UK.
