RIP - many happy memories. My father liked him and played his records. He used to chuckle at the line 'I am a lineman for the county'......my father reckoned he meant he was a touch judge for a county rugby team. It still makes me smile whenever I hear this - even though my father died nearly 10 years ago.
We were discussing this at ukulele band meeting last night.
One of the lads swears he thought, as a kid, the song was "I am a linesman for Notts County" and the other one was "like a nine stone cowboy".....
But seriously, I saw a documentary recently on Netflix about Glen Campbell's dementia, and his farewell concert tour, and it made very difficult viewing. Like most people, I suppose, I understand the basics of what happens when someone is afflicted. But it was only watching this programme that I really saw how disorientating, and even frightening, it can be for the patient. In one scene, when asked, he literally did not know what day it was, then tried to cover by saying that he didn't need to know, as he had "people" who take care of that sort of thing for him.
When the doctor pressed more for an answer, Campbell quickly became quite belligerent, and you could see how that might be troublesome for those around him.
