He was a staple for so many Scottish children who would get a birthday mention on his programme or maybe meet him at one of his touring roadshows. No cartoon network in those days, his Cartoon Cavalcade was the place to see cartoons. Big Ayr Utd fan too. A wee bit of my childhood gone, ranking alongside Noakes and Johnny Ball. A nice man, beloved by many.

He was simply the best in my childhood opinion.

Loved the show - watched it with dad back in the day.

Except for one day.... the ad break in the middle wasn't the usual coffee/biscuits/consumer stuff, but a public information film about the dangers of rabies, complete with stomach injections and a man strapped to a hospital bed in the final throes of the disease. I never watched the ads again. FFS - a Sunday afternoon kids' show?

I remember getting a 'Cavalcade' annual as a Christmas present when I was a child. I didn't know what it was, the programme wasn't shown in Birmingham.
