I bought some sealskinz waterproof gloves last week, and on my way in today wore them with some gore underlayer gloves, and was quite toasty. However on the way back my fingers were freezing. Bit disappointed as i hoped I'd be sorted for winter. Is there a serious underlayer glove i might look at to keep em warm?

Would have thought that sort of kit would have been the dog's danglies, Jez. I always use merino glove liners, but I've chickened out of using the bike this week (cluck!) so kudos for venturing out in this stuff...

If all else fails, try some ski gloves from Chavsports. Bit bulky, but for a fiver they're fantastic. Try 'em with your Gore liners.

Wrote that previous post on my phone - realised it would probably help if I mentioned the specific gloves!

Rode in today with my wooly civvy gloves as a middle layer - fingers felt a bit stingy at the end of the ride but that's probably more down to reduced circulation!

Might a merino layer be better than the gore undergloves, or perhaps a thin merino layer would be ideal as a middle layer?

I have Specialized Sub-Zeros with thermal (removable) liner and have found them very warm down to -2 or -3 degrees. I haven't ventured out in colder than that though. I can't reallly vouch for their waterproof performance, though I think they will be reasonable.

I have sealskinz and Specialized sub zeros - The specialized sub zeros win hands down (the seal skinz are crap IMO - anyone want them?)

I use Decathlon silk running gloves as a base layer when it gets really cold. Still can't run though.

I've got a pair of them, and put Aldi's winter bike gloves over the top. They've been more than adequate so far. Then again, I've not cycled below -3 yet.....

Are you seriously consider 3 pairs of Gloves Jez?

My Aldi winter gloves alone are fine up to about -2/-3. If temps go below this, I add one of their running gloves as a base layer.

Perfick!

I have tried a pair of skiing type gloves, lovely and warm but too bulky to be useful.
My choice now is a pair of cotton gloves under my Aldi winter ones, would be better with proper liner gloves I'm sure.

Are they the same sealskinz as mine?

Perhaps I have just bought a pair of duds. Shame, as the reviews stated they were excellent.

I wear sealskinz with a Mountain warehouse fleecy liner glove which seems to work relatively well ... though looking for the sub zero locally to try on ... I would order online if I could make up my mind what size to get.
