Hi all

Stripped bottom bracket on a not so valuable frame, but worth the effort of making the adjustable cup permanent, certainly not wasting a mechanic's time.

First question: Is there a need to file the mangled thread of the bottom bracket so that the adjustable cup fits snugly?

Secondly: In town I could purchase a "metal epoxy", but nowhere does it say for gluing metal to metal. Can anyone recommend a glue?

Any experience, tips offered will be most welcome.

Thanks in anticipation.

If you are certain you don't mind bodging it, then just clean out the BB thread with a wire brush, coat the thread of the cup with Loctite and screw it in.

it is the chain ring side that has gone, right?

worth a try using epoxy, but been there, done that, didn't work.

thre is a specail bottom bracket that does not rely on the tjhread but instead on the end faces to stay in place, probably a better option.

best not remove any more metal but use wire brush to clean any rust from the threads in the frame.
