But off the top of my head it was about the only reason I could think that heavyweight and ugly to me, 24.1kg bike could get nominated.

It's an electric bike and can't be anything but heavy. Durrrr.

What if we had a network of overhead power lines they could pick up from? They could ditch the battery and be loads lighter.

Yeah and then you could put as many people on them as you liked! and to make steering and what have you easier you could put em on rails.........
