cops convert confiscated 'gang car' into a cop car. Maybe they will be moving into their houses soon

£40,000 car which once belonged to criminals in Glasgow is now being used by the police in the fight against serious crime.

The black AS7 Audi Quattro TDI SiLine was seized by officers from Strathclyde police during an operation against a criminal gang in the north of the city.

The 4x4 car has now been emblazoned with the force's livery and will be used by the Gangs Task Force.

This is the first time Strathclyde Police has used a confiscated vehicle.

Assistant Chief Constable John Neilson said: "I would say to the criminals that what you have this week; your houses, your cars - you might not have next week.

"The hard working, law abiding citizens need to know that we are hurting those involved in serious and organised crime where it matters - their pockets.

"These criminals are fast realising that they are not above the law. They may think that they are getting away with it, but we are determined to make a long-term impact in this area."

Nice to see they're getting some use out of it!

I often wonder why there can't be more such re-use. For instance, why crush cars for unpaid VED? Why can't the government aucton them off, that sort of thing?

Maybe I've got it wrong, but I see the primary purpose of this vehicle to drive around the areas frequented by said gangsters to stick 2 proverbial fingers up at them.

Well done the polis.

I think its because they assume most of the cars seized will be ones that need work doing to make them road legal.

they don't want to be able to be held accountable for a fault with the vehicle which, if sold on, someone may claim over or worse, a fault that causes injury in a crash.

it also stops people thinking "i'll chance it and pay to get my car back if it does get seized."

Wouldn't it be better to sell it, and then use the proceeds to take pensioners out for a slap up dinner, or pay for someone to teach kids about the dangers of drugs and crime, or an entire school dinner bill for a primary school so the kids get at least one decent meal a day?

Instead, we have a bunch of coppers arguing over who drives the pimpmobile!

Dunno, some innocent sap who buys it will probably get taken out by a rival gang thinking they're offing the original owner.

A bit idealistic?

+1, Not before time IMO.

Haven't these people(the crims) been sticking two fingers up at us(the law abiding citz) for years. If they(convicted crims) can't account for all their possessions via employment/accounts/receipts/taxes paid - then they should lose the lot.
I just hope this isn't a one off jesture by the Police to silence their critics - as most(streetwise) people in Glasgow know who's doing what/where(and so do the cops).
