I have to admit something -when I read posts of people saying it was raining over there in the UK, I inwardly smiled as well, I really am pretty fortunate with the weather over here. Sure it gets humid and hot, but really pretty manageable.

So go ahead and laugh.....

2 thunderstorms (bad ones too) and 11 miles of solid,non-stop heavy -I mean really heavy -rain today on the commute home. Completely and utterly soaked! The worst part was at the top of a hill -highest point of my commute and having lightning and thunder all around, not pleasant. Rain was so heavy I had to stop as I couldn't see.

Finally got home -there had been a tornado warning.

I remember when I worked in Boston (MA not Lincs), we had a storm warning. Everyone packed up and went home. I was slightly bemused but did likewise, catching the train (the last for the day at around 2pm, the service was being withdrawn because of the storm). I figured I'd got an afternoon off because of a bit of rain and wind.... "a bit"!!! By cripes, I've not ever experienced anything like it, before or since.

I'd have been terrified to have been out in that on a bike. I'm certainly not laughing Nigeyy!

This was all karma for me being smug and thinking "well, I really don't miss cycling in the rain in the UK....."

I have to say it was pretty bad. Visibility got to be very bad -I kept an eye on my mirror to try to see cars coming up behind me, and I had to stop quite a few times (and who wants to stop in a thunderstorm with heavy lightning on top of a hill?). Visibility was the worst thing -and the roads were starting to hold a lot of water so you couldn't see if they were hiding potholes, nor could I see much in front of me. But.... I will admit to getting home with a smile on my face.

No cycle commuting today; the same forecast, if not worse!

How much does it cost to Oldham?
I was in st. Louis one sunday afternoon. Looked out of the hotel window: nice and sunny. 'Ah! i'll get dressed and go for a walk!'

got dressed. Looked out of the window again and there was a tree floating down the street in the river that had just accumulated.

twenty minutes later, the streets were pretty much bone dry again. Wierd.

I dont mind the rain in England but talking to cycle commuters at work and it looks like they will shut up shop in the winter even though i wont.finding the weather at the moment too uncomfortable hot for me.
