In his article on the Beeb website, Steve Parish is of the opinion that Rossi could retire as a result of this.
I hadn't seen that when I posted earlier but it wouldn't surprise me. The two were good friends, training (on and off bikes) together and they were born and lived just a few miles apart.

I think that someone (Lee, was it?) up the thread said that the strap possibly ripped from the lid and I think it's something like that.
Safety equipment has a defined point of failure, or it starts to become more of a risk. Without going too much into details, I hope, but It looked like Edwards basically rode up Marco's back and up into the base / back of the helmet and something has to give when you've got 250kg of bike and rider hitting you like that. The chance in a million.
