this time last year i used to go 'exploring' for up to 5/6 hours on my bike, this year i can barely manage 3 hours.
i was fine before the doctor told me i had dodgy hips that need replacing and 3 squished vertabra ! i wonder if its all in my mind or if they really are just getting worse !!!

I'd say the more you think about it, the more you'll feel them hurting.
Also knowing there is a problem will limit what you do. Even if you don't intend to.

If you're doing the same distances as last year in less time "exploring" it's an improvement!
Are you keeping a record of your rides?

I've had one hip replaced and the other is on the way out.

Main impact on cycling is getting on and off the bike.

Pedalling is OK, although it does sometimes suit me to play the hip card.
