Hi:

So just trying to clear the air on this one - are we supposed to wear underpants beneath the cycling shorts…or go commando. I must confess I find the latter more comfortable! (PS. I’m a guy…)
What do we think…?

No undies with lycra.

You can't wear underwear under cycling shorts, they're specifically designed to be worn as a single layer to reduce / eliminate seams and chafing in hot spots against the saddle. Wearing undies undermines all of that and puts seams and hot spots back in where they're not welcome.

Do shower before and after a ride, and wash your shorts every time you wear them, and there's no worry on hygiene.

Sorry, I don't want to deflect the thread but.......what's the verdict about nakedness under bib longs?
Just the same if you're talking about proper bibs with a chamois.

Commando is the way to go, but I have just had a saddle sore, a pair of seamless undershorts helped me keep riding, the same idea of double layer socks for hiking.

Under padded shorts one is supposed to go au naturel.

However, over years of running courses more than one rider has old me they still wear pants but turn them inside out so the seams don't rub against the skin.
