OH doesn't want me to have a bike with side pull brakes cos he said they're impossible to adjust. So when I started wittering about the Dawes Mojave he said NO! I had to say I would take all responsibility for the brakes.

Anyhoo, when I picked it up I got all the way home before realisng the front brake was rubbing quite badly. Managed to adjust it so that it wasn't rubbing but now my downhil stopping prowess is somewhat reduced.

I can't be bothered to fiddle with it, OH has just left the house and is not coming back til friday evening, so I've just rung the bike shop and they say they'll have it done before he gets back!

Feel like I'm having an affair!

Other's have said the same, but when you mention these kinds of brakes he goes all Victor Melrew!
PS they aren't side pull. They are V brakes and a doddle to adjust. Each brake arm has an adjusting screw that alters the spring tension.
Yes, you're right. OH refuses to be involved in anything that isn't either disc brakes or centre pull.
And it's going to take today and tomorrow for the shop to do it. You can do it yourself in less than five minutes, and that's with a tea break.
He says hell have done by the end of todau, as it is I'm picking it up tomorrow anyway. Back pads were more or less on the line, so he's replacing those, tightening my kickstand and loosening my riser bar thingy which is so tight I can't get it undone to adjust it.
Nice bike.
Thank you, I love it. Much prefer the step through frame for hopping on and off without having to cock my leg and flash my knickers to innocent bystanders!
Montyveda supplied a diagram and advice (as did others) on this problem before. http://www.cyclechat.net/threads/oh-dear-v-brakes.141178/#post-2696423

It might take you 15 minutes the first time you try it but it really is a doddle. Give it a go and put your OH to shame!

I know, I did adjust them myself initially, but couldn't get them quite right, so thought I'd get an expert on the job. I've got a place on a beginners cycle maintenance course in Feb (despite riding a bike for 15 years I've never got to grips with the maintenance side of things) so the nice bike shop man will be seeing alot less of me after that!

Having an affair with your local bike mechanic is one way of cutting your bills and getting discount on a new bike!

However membership of the CTC OR SIMILAR saves on court costs in the long run
Alas, this particular LBS is just bike mechanics no sales. Very highly recomended by me too for anyone in the Sheffield area.
