Well I've just turned the forks up to their hardest setting and I will also buy a pair of those tyres in the next 10 minutes, do you think I need to change inner tubes any others?

The bike is pretty standard apart from the Brooks saddle, I hope I get used to that - it seems quite uncomfortable at the moment.

Here is a photo of my bike as it stands:

I commute about the same distance. i also weigh in at 275lbs although i will point out i do a lot of weights.. I've been commuting 3 years now on my trusty mtb the 3 best things i did was buy rigid forks, put on some slicks and get a pannier rack.

Tyres i use are conti city contact plus, 1.75's which i feel is better for the heavier rider i have tried 1.5's did not feel right at all.

As pointed out above just take it easy at first and build it up slowly.

Right well I have bought the tyres, I will asses whether or not I am going to carry on after a few weeks. If I am I will see about paniers, so far I've spend a bit of money!

BF, if the bug bites, you'll soon find that a 'bit' of money is a very strange term in the world of cycling. Bargains seem to bring things down to the level of expensive, as opposed to exorbitant. As I started with no kit at all I have found this a very expensive activity to get involved in, be warned, lots of shiny, shiny, things to buy:biggrin:

Let us know how you get on
