I have been to the Quacks this morning .For the third time since Dec last year one of my knees is swollen. If they both go at the same time well that would be interesting.

We have had a discussion.Xmas last year just after helping move furniture the knee swelled up it was Feb before it settled down.
Then i was part of a team that set up a big freebie BBQ in a local park.Again tables chairs gas bottles and two grills .All heavy lifting. One of the knees again swelled up.

Well two sundays back.I was part of a catering team for a big party celebration. We borrowed a school kitchen and dining room.In was on duty from 09-30 till 17-30.
But it was the cleaning of the floors and carpets with hoover and mop and bucket. That has triggered off another swelling. So it has been decided rather than keep going on like this i must say no.
So at the mo i am having a slight rest till the swelling goes down.A little time off the bike will do me wonders later on .

I cannot keep putting my knees through this so sorry to say no more helping moving things. The cycling comes first.

An old Dutch cyclist I know swears by rubbing Deep Heat all over his knees and wears knee leggings with his shorts in all but the hottest weather.

One of my more elderly walking chums swears by olive oil on her knees every night. Of course, may be a case of horse, bolt, make a sentence. Sorry!

You're a good sort Postman and will find it hard saying no to people who need help - even if it's for your benefit.

Nothing wrong with his limbs but he's got a black eye from when Popeye caught them at it!!!

I have a slightly wonky left knee (trampoline accident of all things) and a wonky back (badminton accident and an encounter with a runaway horse). ;)

If I find that people are expecting me to move heavy items, I just politely say that I cannot do it. Not easy to start with, but gets easier with practice.

In your situation, Postman, I would think of the ways I could help, and explain beforehand about not lifting heavy items.

One thing that aggravates my injuries is pushing a supermarket trolley, steering* it on a slippery floor and all the changes of direction. So I sit at my computer, and order the heavy stuff, which someone very kindly takes off the shelf for me, and someone else delivers it.

* Yes, I already know that women and steering are two words not usually found in the same sentence. But I am one of those few women who know about it, and can do reversing on opposite lock.

Positive reaction last night as i told a few of my friends of my decision.
I have been 'helping' for 22 years.
And my mates thought it was time to rest. And find out what direction i should be going in in my walk of faith.
There is a great belief that i should be doing more than just moving equipment.
So i am going to take the advice offered. And rest .
