I wouldn't mind a MKI GTI in red.

I retired from a profession late last year (after 42 years) where golf is the networking "sport" of choice.

I was one of a very, very small percentage of senior managers that never played a round in my whole career, or, in fact, in my life.

My late old dad would have gone mad at me, "that's four or five hours of cycling time you've just wasted!".

In addition, my wife, spent a couple of years at the end of her chef career, helping a friend who had the contract to do the catering at our local golf course. She said the male members were pretty rude, but the women members, particularly those "on the Committee" were unbelievably rude to the catering and bar staff.

However, when it comes to Crazy Golf, when on holiday, myself and my wife have scorecards going back years. 😀

I'm left handed and have almost no hand eye coordination.
By accident I found myself working in a golf crazy environment.
So I got the back office stuff. Sorting the silly give aways, prizes, flow of drink, food. This also included explaining to suppliers why they needed to support this or that event. How for money or goods in lieu they could sponsor a hole, that their competitor had been offering.

And I'm not the sort any golf club would want, fortunately.

Would love one of those.. I had a couple of Mk2s; one would be the spiritual successor to the Mk1 above - late pre-facelift (so small bumpers), 3dr 16v in Tornado red (or Tornado pink if you didn't stay on top of it). Still miss that car although it was the right decision to sell it.

As for the much-less-interesting "sport" of the same name - "a good walk ruined" seems appropriate; it appears to have come about as a means for the unimaginative to conspicuously fritter away excess time and money whilst not achieving very much..

I’ve owned 16 Golf’s over the years, quite a few Mk2’s My ex wife loved them and had a new one every couple of years and I had them as company cars, my favourite was a 1989 16V GTi engineering RE1900 in Oak green with factory Recaros, full BBS body kit and 15” Ronal Quattro style alloys. Had that new and did 140000 miles in it, swapped it in 1993 for a new Golf VR6 which was a lovely long distance car. Last Golf I owned was a 2015 GTD DSG which I kept for 9 years, sold it last year.

Nice - I think that would have been my favourite too. Everyone loves Oak Green and I think they looked great in any of the dark metallics. My later model was in pearl grey which was very nice; the red of the earlier one would have been right down the list although the car sold itself to me on spec and condition..

My wife had a tornado red early VR6 and although the colour wasn’t our first choice it did suit the car especially with the black arches and detailing. Identical to this one.

You’re right, however my 1992 911 (964) Carrera RS had gone pink in only 10 years, I ended giving it a glass out repaint.

Crikey!

tbh I try to avoid red cars if at all possible as I'm typically not a fan of the colour and many variants are known for turning pink
