I started cycling properly last August, I'm a relatively fit 60 year old
My bests so far have been 20miles at 14mph and 37m at 11.5mph (mind I did 33 miles the day before on mostly the same route but the hills were steeper the next day)
I have a 2013 Boardman hybrid and use Shimano spd mtb shoes with a530 pedals
Want to go faster and further.
So after looking at dozens of 1k road bikes it's narrowed down to three 'sportive' profile bikes. I have done a what should I get post re Boardman Road Carbon, Boardman Carbon Pro and tbe new all ultegra planet. X carbon pro.
Can't use c2w as i am self employed ltd co

Hi & :welcome:
I've just ordered the Planet X Carbon Pro. It made me grin like a loon when I test rode it. Hubster has the Boardman Carbon and really likes it. I prefer the Planet X though.

Welcome! My advice (for what it is worth) is save some of your money for now. Keep pedalling and gradually increase both speed and distance.
Is speed the be all for you? If not, a good touring frame will be more comfortable and a pleasure to ride, and can still be pretty quick and easier to fit mudguards and a carrier if you want to spend days out in the saddle.
Drop bars and high gears can also be a challenge that may make your riding less pleasurable.........

That is excellent advice

I'm the same age as you and went from hybrid to road bike a couple of years ago.My advice is go on and do it,you can still build up the speed and distance gradually but the difference you will find between the two bikes will amaze you.
