There was an unprecedented run on tickets for Take That this morning. I'd thought about participating in a bit of scalping i.e. buy tickets and sell them on at a profit on the secondary market on sites like Viagogo but I decided not to. At 09:01 a minute after sales had started, a colleague rang me and asked if I could access the ticket site as he couldn't and his wife was relying upon him to buy some tickets. By 9:03 I had four for for him and the money was in the process of being transferred to my account.
Twenty minutes later I checked on the progress of another colleague who is a Take That fanatic and found that she'd not managed to gain access to the completion of transaction page and was distraught. Her husband and his office staff were also trying on her behalf to get tickets and were getting nowhere. Three or four minutes later I'd managed to purchase four tickets for her.
At ten o'clock I thought of yet another colleague who'd mentioned that she was going to get some tickets for herself and her daughter as a Christmas present. Rang her and woke her up - she'd had a heavy night and was convinced that she'd missed the boat. She tried accessing the ticket sites and failed miserably. Five minutes of activity at my computer and the third transaction was complete.
Looking at the Viagogo web site, the tickets are now selling at around £135. The purchase price was £60 inc booking fee. There's lots of blocks of eight - the maximum available per person for sale.
I could have made a killing had I been motivated enough.
I'm happy enough have three happy colleagues.
