I had my usual 16ish miles home today, mostly uphill. Suddenly the traffic ground to a halt, luckily I was on a cycle path and carried on past the accident that was holding everyone up. The front car of the jam finally caught up with me 6 miles further down the road, by then I was 2 minutes from home.
The other good reasons to cycle, I managed the 16 mile journey down to my treatment only 5 minutes slower than it takes me in the car and I haven't put petrol in the car for over a week. I'm down to £10 worth of petrol every couple of weeks and if I get a trailer the petrol will last even longer

One of the many delightful things about cycling at the moment is catching sight of the prices at petrol stations.

Yep- every time I feel like not cycling due to general knackeredness, I remind myself that I've avoided using the car in three weeks, daylight robbery petrol prices & enjoying my unbelievable smugness in overtaking great long lines of stationary traffic every morning & evening...

It's always a shock when I have to put petrol in the car how much more expensive it has become since the last time I needed to fill up, normally after two months, three sometimes. I am amazed there are not more people choosing to ditch the car for their short commute, especially as it has not really rained heavily during the week in Swindon this year.
