That's precisely the problem!! The only thing you get famous for these days is the way you look!! You can really excel in your field of expertise but if there's no angle the media can put on it then you're a nobody!!

She's in 2nd position behind Jo Rowsell. Elinor Barker and Katie Armstrong behind. (photo from the Guardian - it's not the WR race, it's a qualifier)

Barnet,
I was surprised that the track events were not even on the BBC red button. I didn't even know the results until I heard about it on Radio 4's today program this morning.

There was a pretty good quality live stream on Youtube. However, it didn't cover all the sessions and the commentating was mostly in Dutch, with minimal English and French. For some reason the Youtube channel is still counting down for tonight's evening coverage. Odd when when you consider that the event has finished. There's an outside chance that they'll stick up a highlights version, I suppose. And you can watch yesterday's coverage here - http://www.ectrackcycling.com/index.php?page=fotos-nl

How can Laura Trott's wins this weekend be lost in a sea of Football. What happened to the BBC's commitment to Women's sport and cycling? May be she should cry a bit and get the attention of the press.
As it is she gets on a with the job.
This is the real point and is common in most if not all areas of the media. Here at amateur level, the grass roots of cycling [or any other sport for that matter] discrimination is rife, from prize money to reporting. Cycling Weekly for instance is one of the biggest offenders, very often ignoring women's results completely.
Too many areas of sport are still run by men, in our branch it is old men who hold 1950's values where the woman should be at home rearing children, cooking and cleaning, It is really quite shocking, only yesterday we were at a prize presentation where the winning man gets a trophy and xx amount of money while the first woman gets less money and no trophy, how can that be right? What is worse is that the men are not even aware they are being discriminatory or sexist.
One of the problems as we see it, is that men are always happy to beat their breasts and shout, "look at me", while women are much less demonstrative and just get on with it. Witness any forum topic on here that turns into a shouting match and gets personal, how often do you see a woman involved?
It is my hope that somewhere along the line a female lawyer will challenge the media and people that run sporting organisations and point out that they are in breach of the 2010 Equality Act. Back at grass roots we continue to chip away at medieval attitudes.

Laura Trott is the real deal and let's see what happens over the next few years. We do have a women's Tour of Britain now and Cookson has committed to making changes. Once upon a time no cycling made it to mainstream news but I read her results on the BBC website: Slowly, slowly, catchee monkee (is that an OK saying these days, I've no idea?)

Generally only used by unctuous salesmen.

Unfortunately the TV companies will only put on what the majority of people (or what they think the majority of people) want to see. This is why football has wall to wall coverage because more people have an interest in it than they do in cycling. Similar to what happened to coverage of Rangers FC in Scotland last year, they were in the bottom division but still got more media attention than any other team other than Celtic. Lots of fans of top division teams thought this was unfair and their team should have more coverage but the reporters/papers/tv and radio stations were just catering to what "sells".

It's not a conspiracy. The question was raised in the US several years ago when the WNBA was launched and the TV channels were showing games, after the initial start the crowds were dwindling and the TV coverage followed suite.

Yes, she is but Kirsten Wild (NL) is up there too. I think they both finished the omnium on equal points and, after countback, LT had won by 0.04 of a second. That's close!
