Hi,

I am about to begin my second winter of commuting. Last year I was on a brommie and had some lighter weight tights, 3/4 underneath them and another set of 3/4 baggy shorts over the top. (I was a bit more conscious of licra then and also almost 2 stones heavier....

Anyhow I now use the local train in the morning so that I do not get to work sweaty. I then cycle all the way home without the train. I am looking for a decent set of tights that will keep me warm in the depths of winter for a 15 mile commute. I do not mind getting wet if I am warm! I will probably still wear 3/4 under as my knees do not like the cold! Any suggestions?

I've tried all sorts of combintions, but i still find that a pair of Ron Hill Bikesters with 3/4 bibs underneath is warm enough for the coldest day.
I think it's more about the hands, feet, knees and head than legs, keep them warm and you're sorted.

Thread Hijack Alert:
re the Night Visions. I've just bought a pair from Wiggle and the pad seems to be completely in the wrong place. It is too far forward and largely acts as a codpiece. None of it is in contact with the bum part of the saddle, only the nose. Has anybody else had this problem or is this likely to be a one off?

Obvious question...they are the right way round?

Actually, that was my first thought when I was riding along. It wouldn't be the first time I've done something like that. I once turned up at work wearing one black shoe and one brown.... Well it was dark when I got dressed. The short answer is: no they were the right way round

The point about extremities is the main thing. Ears, fingers, toes and the old fella feel the cold most - for the latter, Gore wear shreddies under the (Altura) tights get me through the coldest winters (mind you, its not been below -8 for years).

Thank you all for your suggestions. Now to start shopping. I think that I have the extremities sorted with overshoes, radiant gloves and a skull cap. Just want to get the legs sorted, esp knees! Thanks for all your suggestions. Mark
