I've said on another thread - I'd favour coming in line with Athens time.

The next places on our present time are Portugal, Madeira, and the Canary Islands. They're far enough west to justify it.

We'd have moved several times snce the experiment was ended, but it always gets voted down by scots MPs. Perhaps once there are less of them in the next parliament there'll be change. Until then, no hope.

I can't see any good reason why, if the Scots* like dark evenings, they can't be stay in the Lisbon time zone while we in England move. Come to that why can't the English have a vote on Scottish independence - it would be sure to happen then!

*Same goes for the Welsh and the Irish.

My body clock is still in BST, last night the evening felt very long and I was feeling very tired as well, this morning I was wide awake at 7 am

I never really have trouble adjusting - it's only an hour. Though psychologically, losing an hour's sleep in Spring is never a welcome prospect!

None at all - just factual stuff. They've blocked every attempt to change

FWIW I can see no reason at all for Scotland not being independent, or for having ceased to be in the first place.

Not sure I would fancy BST during the winter - it would mean getting up and cycling to work in the dark during December/early January.

I've been cycling to work in the dark for about 3 weeks now so I'd probably notice less. At least you're relatively awake on the way to work, at least that's what popular theory says anyway, so coming home in the light is a plus in my book.

I'm all for either Permanent BST, or stepping entirely in line with CET. At least we get daylight in the winter

Same here. England and Wales should adopt CET, while Scotland and Ireland stay as they are. (And Norfolk remains in 1976 .) It can't be that complicated to sort out. After all, many US states straddle time zones such as the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oregon and Kentucky without any problems, so why not the UK? Sunset at 4pm like what we get here in December is just ridiculous.

We don't like dark evenings, we just can't avoid them.

With GMT in winter, you get light mornings and dark evenings and so do we.

With BST in winter, you get dark mornings and light evenings but we get dark mornings AND dark evenings.

There's only any virtue in a change if it works year round without messing with the clocks. Just changing to a different form of messing with time helps nobody (at least in net terms).

I did the clocks that needed to be done but today when cycling to the shops I completely forgot that it was going to be dark so soon. I was going to have a coffee before leaving for home then fortunately saw the rapidly dimishing daylight through the shopping centre foyer so dashed madly to get rest of stuff before going home. Fortunately I've always a rear LED on but have no front light as I can't find the bar attachment. Will have to organize myself better.
