1, Sorry if this has already been mentioned but i have just found this on google maps.
2, I was'nt sure where to post this.

If you go on Google Maps,
Enter your location,
Hover over the satalite/map icon (top right),
Then select BICYCLING from the drop down menu.

This will show the cycle routes and cycle friendly roads on the map & satalite image.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Tried it , instead of directing me onto the cyclepath it tries to get me to ride on the A38, unless you fancy dodging 2 lanes of speeding traffic and the "roundabout of death " its not advised.

i find google maps on the iphone very handy when i am lost, just speak to it and tell it where i want to go and it becomes a satnav! TALKS TOO ;)
It's just another indirect way of trying to segregate cyclists and motorists. No way do I click on that icon, road all the way.
Most of the ones around here look to be on roads- everyone's happy! ^_^

Be careful, some places marked as cycle paths aren't cycle paths!
There is a no cycling zone near me marked as a cycle path in GMaps...

As with Sat Navs, a useful tool, but common sense also needs to be used!
.

A bit patchy in my area, but it's a start.

I've found google maps pretty rubbish for finding cycle routes, though I sometimes use it with another route finder. Transport direct is fairly good.

It is funny as some "cycle paths" are actually mud tracks and right of ways not meant for bikes, well not the decent kind anyway .

Endomondo for me and creating/following routes.

Strava has a route creator which uses google maps, it has a "Use Popularity" setting so it will plan routes for one place to another using the most cycled roads according to the data they hold.
It can also overlay segments if you're a segment chaser... and also allows you to select a climb category.

I don't really use route creators though, and if I do I like the ability to Street View the route.

Google maps gets worse each year IMHO, especially since they ditched the conventional UK colour coding for roads, and the bike path option (for around here anyway) is hopeless. On the other hand, I'm a huge fan of Street View so use that to suss out junctions etc having plotted my route with bikehike (usually the OSM option) and memory map and/or my paper OS maps.
