I've been reading reviews, and looking at the information on GoPro's site, and was considering getting one for my bicycle commutes. Then I just found out that its battery is non-removable! In other words: once the battery has been recharged enough times to significantly reduce its total recording time, the camera turns into a fancy-looking cubic paperweight. Given that this camera costs even more than previous GoPro cameras, I'm pretty unimpressed with this 'feature'.

I searched for any information I could find on whether the battery can be replaced (even if it means taking apart the camera), but found nothing. I emailed GoPro support asking them about battery replacement.

After seeing @topcat1's photos of the night ride last weekend, I looked at GoPros again and saw the Session version. It's certainly small, but I can't help feeling that it's too small to use as a hand-held camera, even if it's good as a helmet mounted one. BTW, I was dead impressed with topcat taking photos with an outstretched left arm as he rode along

I'd go for the Hero4 Silver, at the same price. Given that the Session is yet to be released.
The main advantages of the Hero Session are the size and weight: it's about half the weight, and 2/3 the size (or something like that) of the earlier Hero models. I'm currently using a Hero 3 black and Hero 3+ black, so no point in my buying the Hero 4 silver. I was quite taken with the Hero Session until I found out that the battery was non-replaceable.

The battery is a let down on the Session, I'll wait to see how they get around this. I need about 6 hours = 3 batteries on the Hero3 so i'll be sticking with that for now.

...the non replaceable battery thing seems to be common these days with a lot of the mobile electronic stuff. Given their short life expectancy (2 or 3 years) before the next 'must have' model comes along to tempt us, I don't see it as an issue any more. Just think, in a couple years you'll be lusting after another camera not much bigger than a gnat's c**k :okay:

Don't expect a reply from GoPro - I've emailed them twice and never received a reply.

So now i'm thinking get a mobile phone recharger stick it in my bag and after 2 hours charge on the go at the same time still using the time lapse.

I bought the Hero 4 Silver at the back end of last year; mainly for the lcd screen on the back. I have to say, I haven't been disappointed in any way.

The image quality is surprisingly good and the size is spot on too. I rarely go out for a ride now without it mounted under my handlebars, (a kind of dashcam in case of any mishap/coming together with anything).

It is a great little camera that really enables the creative juices to get to work. Replaceable batteries are a must, so the Session is a non starter for me.
