If anyone was in any doubt about the view of the courts as to the value of a cyclists life, read this and despair.

Accepting, as we must, that the jury didnt believe his dangerous driving caused his death, two years for this!!

And unbelieveably he will be allowed to drive again after 3 years.

I give up.

Un-believabloodybelievable. He should have got 20 years minimum. The law is taking the pi55. Stubbs' punishment is an afront to justice. The law is an ass. Poor Mr Spinks. It's in cases like this you really wish some one would come along and snuff out the Homebase driver Stubbs .

That's disgraceful. How can this be?

"The jury cleared him of the more serious charge of causing death by dangerous driving but found him guilty of careless driving and perverting the course of justice."

How can this not be manslaughter? He killed him. That is not in dispute. 'careless driving?' Jesus!

"Mr Spink was seen clinging on to the windscreen wipers of Stubbs's vehicle to try and prevent being dragged under. "

"The jury cleared him of the more serious charge of causing death by dangerous driving but found him guilty of careless driving and perverting the course of justice. "

So when someone is clinging onto your windscreen wipers in attempt to evade certain death and you continue to drive this is merely careless.

One can't be gaoled for careless driving, so that 2 years is just for perverting the course of justice. I'm wondering that if as it is regarded as "not as serious" as covering up a murder or for financial gain that is why it is that length . Very nasty indeed.

Even without the other things failing to stop after an accident can carry upto six months in gaol. I don't see why he wasn't prosecuted for this. It isn't like him not stopping didn't affect the outcome.

From all accounts he hasn't even apologised? Surely if it were death by careless driving he'd be beside himself and begging the family to forgive him?

I know we hear very little of the story but I just can't see how a group of people can know that this man was clinging on to the windscreen wipers of the lorry which continued to drive on and then go for the much lesser charge of careless driving?

Totally baffling!

One of the reasons civilised societies have judicial systems that exact retribution for crimes is to counter the natural desire for victims and victims families to take it upon themsleves to do it. I hate to say it but I think these sentences will continue until people start to take it upon themselves to provide justice. This situation is really bad for any society and the whole criminal justice system has an obligation to ensure it doesn't happen. Justice is a fundamental requirement for a sound society.

With these cases the CPS look at the behaviour of the driver, rather than the consequences of the behaviour. That said, it beggars belief that a charge of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving could not be made to stick.

I don't even know where to begin, absolutely incredible.

Terrible, shocking dereliction of duty by the CPS and court system, they should be ashamed of themselves.

+1. All we need is some one to seek natural justice where the authorities have clearly failed miserably. Wasn't there a father who caught up with the killer of his young daughter after he had been released after a comparatively woefully inadequate sentence? I think the father of the murdered girl got something like an 18 months suspended sentence for killing the chap who killed her. The father's life had been destroyed, he never got over his loss. As for the mother I don't know. Maybe she committed suicide as she couldn't handle the loss of her daughter so the father had two losses to deal with caused by the murder of his daughter. Part of the purpose of sentencing should take into account the effect on the victims.

Scandalous. I'm shaking with rage at this. And we all know it's not as if this is a one off. These bastards are literally getting away with murder. I feel so sad for the poor man's family- slapped in the face by our crap legal system.
The law is written by fecking cagers, sentences are passed by fecking cagers and juries are made up of fecking cagers. peanuts the bloody lot of'em.
